GEAB: Austerity Is Already Here for the Vast Majority of U.S. Citizens

The GlobalEurope Anticipation Bulletin (GEAB) is the confidential letter of think-tank LEAP/Europe 2020, published in partnership with the Dutch foundation GEFIRA. As such, our aim is to provide our readers with state-of-the-art analysis of geo-political anticipation centered around the study and follow-up of the global systemic crisis, itself focused on the evolution of the dollar and of the U.S. economy and their impact on international economy and financial markets, all that seen from a European perspective.

Global Systemic Crisis in the Second Half of 2010

The immediate environment of the vast majority of US citizens has not stopped worsening since 2008, whatever the statistics and Federal experts may say. The true rate of unemployment is at least between 15% and 20% and reaches 30% to 40% in the towns and regions which are the most badly affected by the crisis. The states are obliged to increase their budget cuts and to abolish all types of social services, increasing unemployment in the same stroke. In general terms, it is the local authorities and the states which, de facto, have been putting in place a policy of austerity hidden from the world for many months now, and which is accelerating.

Each day the news confirms the extent to which the global systemic crisis has now entered into the phase of global geopolitical dislocation, even if the media only timidly begin to interpret the historic upheavals which unfold before our own eyes.

For LEAP/E2020, the second half of 2010 will thus correspond to a new step in the global geopolitical dislocation, characterized by an acceleration in the process of strategic, financial, economic and social convulsions centered on four single points of failure of the international system analyzed in this GEAB issue. The general context is that which has been outlined in previous GEAB reports, that’s to say a recovery … of the world economic crisis after a temporary freeze due to stimulation measures.

But before entering into the detail of these anticipations on the unfolding of the economic and financial crisis in the second half of 2010, let’s take note that the beginning of June 2010 provides two particularly striking examples of the accelerated collapse of the global system of these past decades: one in terms of global economic governance, the other concerning the ability of the United States to control its own allies (see GEAB N°46).

Having put recent events, symptomatic of the acceleration of world geopolitical dislocation, into perspective, the four individual points of failure in the second half of 2010, according to LEAP/E2020, are as follows:

1. Western public debt: when insolvency becomes intolerable
2. European austerity: when contextual growth is abandoned in favour of structural stablility
3. Chinese inflation: when China is going to begin to export its inflation
4. US contraction: from "hidden mass austerity" to "imposed Federal austerity"

Each one will be affected by a major shock during the course of the second half of 2010, leading to a sectorial, regional or global crisis.

In this public announcement of GEAB N°46, our team chose to present its anticipation regarding the fourth single point of failure of the second half of 2010: US contraction. In the rest of this issue of the GEAB, subscribers will discover a second excerpt of the manual of political anticipation, concerned this time about the question of research teams and sources, as well as some information on the new political anticipation training cycle for 2010-2011 (only for GEAB subscribers). Finally, we give the detail of our recommendations in terms of US municipal bonds, financial markets, currencies and real estate in particular, aimed at helping face the shocks of the second half of 2010.

In terms of global economic governance, let’s remember that only a year ago the G20 aspired to establish a new world governance, and the United States believed it would be able to organize this new system around its own priorities ....

Never have so many Americans been dependent on Federal Government food stamps which now contribute, to an unprecedented extent, to US households’ income. The states are also obliged to increase their budget cuts and to abolish all types of social services, increasing unemployment in the same stroke. And these events unfold whilst the impact of the Obama administration’s economic stimulation plan is deemed to be at its maximum!

There is nothing surprising in learning that household consumption is not taking off, even falling as May retail sales show; and that the real estate market continues its descent into hell. As a matter of fact, the most reliable advanced indicators show that the US economy will start to contract in the second half of this year. Far from the 3.5% growth announced by Ben Bernanke for 2010, the country will be really lucky according to our team if it records a number above zero for the current year.

Because, contrary to the statements coming out of Washington and Wall Street, austerity is already here for the vast majority of US citizens who haven’t any more work or no more homes or debts exceeding their assets, and who can no longer pay their childrens’ university fees, their outing or their holidays, without even discussing day-to-day living costs.

In addition, in numerous localities:

• There is no longer regular rubbish collection (or else they must pay higher taxes).


• Saturday mail deliveries have been stopped.


• They are less well protected due to a lack of police.


• They must queue endlessly at state and government offices following the firing of civil servants, and their children have fewer teachers in the schools which provide fewer services (canteen, school buses…).

In general terms, it is the local authorities and the states which, de facto, have been putting in place a policy of austerity hidden from the world for many months now, and which is accelerating.

It is what LEAP/E2020 calls "rampant mass austerity." It has been the main component of the real US economy and society for two years, and it is that which embodies the end of the "US consumer," which we have anticipated since the end of 2006, due to insolvency. This insolvency has steadily progressed upwards, towards players in the real estate market, towards the banks, towards car manufacturers.

And now, at the end of an economic stimulus, it affects the states, the banks once again and at last the Federal State because, following the successful media staging of the "Greek crisis," the fear of sovereign bankruptcy has led the Eurozone and the rest of the G20 to favour the re-establishment of structural balanced budgets and, then, to ban the pursuit of Western public indebtedness. But without growing public indebtedness, the US economy is condemned to suffer a major crisis because, for the last two or three decades, it has only produced one thing, debt, and that it only exports the latter. The US Dollar is nothing more than a credit letter on a fully indebted economy.

Thus, in deciding not to accede to the request of the US Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, to begin a further round of debt-based economic stimulus, the G20 has condemned Washington to have to face the unthinkable for world markets: announce an era of Federal budget austerity. Irony of history, this negative step by the G20 (in letting each one do what it could, the other G20 members didn’t dare be explicit on the necessity for US austerity) is directly connected to the likely consequences of the November 2010 elections, which will see US voters deal some severe blows to the Washington system and to its two big bets (see previous GEAB issues), making such a "mental revolution" not only possible, but necessary for the Democrats and the Republicans if they want to have a chance of winning the 2010 Presidential Elections.

For our team, US domestic socio-political constraints thus meet with external economic-financial pressures during the second half of 2010, making inevitable the implementation of the first major US austerity budget plan for over sixty years combined with the sharpest rise in fiscal pressure for fifty years.

The consequences of such a revolution on the US economy, trade, world financial markets, Dollar-denominated assets (at the forefront of which are US Treasury Bonds), and the Dollar itself, are huge. We will come back to this in the recommendations section of this issue. Nevertheless, one should bear in mind that, since 1945 (and perhaps even the 1930’s), the world economy and finance has been based on the myth of an irresistible US growth engine which, whilst suffering short periods of loss of speed, remained reliable under all trials.

If the weakness of the social net has always required that the United States have strong growth in order to avoid millions of Americans being crushed by poverty, doubtless it is even worse for the world financial and monetary system which enjoys no safety net at all.

If Greek or Spanish austerity measures provoke such disorder, imagine what will come about because of US austerity which necessitates budgetary cuts of at least one trillion USD over a three to five year period.

This sort of news will provoke a radical reconsideration of the principal myth on which international markets and the economic and financial system of these last few decades were based, guaranteeing it a place at the forefront amongst the four single points of failure for the global system during the next half year.

Notes:

(1) A single point of failure (SPOF) is a point in a computer network on which the whole of the IT system depends and a breakdown of which leads to the whole system coming to a stop. The main characteristic of the single point of failure is that it is not protected (redundant). There is, then, a risk to the whole system. In the definition of "Single Point of Failure," the word "Single" is the most important and underlines the unique character, and thus the fragility, of the "component." The idea of individual point of failure is directly related to that of service, in the sense that a problem affecting the point concerned causes a breakdown in service. According to LEAP/E2020, the deepening of the crisis and the passing of a further step of the global systemic crisis in the second half of 2010 will be evidence of very serious problems in terms of four separate points of failure at the core of the current international system. The consequences, as in the case to an IT system, will be a denial of service, that’s to say, major crises in the areas, regions and sectors concerned.

(2) Our readers will note that, compared to mainstream Anglo-Saxon media and those who "copy, cut and paste" them elsewhere, we haven’t summarized the coming world risks as having two causes only: Greece and the Euro. We even consider that they are no part of the single points of failure of the international system: Greece because it is on the margin and has no key-role in the system, the Euro because it has never been at risk of collapse and because, in two months, Euroland has put measures in place which for a decade it has refused to do and, moreover, of which austerity measures are a part. And it is this austerity which, according to our team, will be a part of the four points of failure of the world system.

(3) LEAP/E2020 has invested considerable effort and expense (including a full page “open letter” in the Financial Times) to underline that the G20 couldn’t be an alternative solution to the collapse of global governance inherited from the Second World War, unless a proposal for a new world reserve currency was put on the table, in order to ensure that all the G20 players would have an interest in cooperating in the medium and long term (see the GEAB reports for the first half of 2009). Well, Washington didn’t want to hear about it and the Europeans have been incapable of taking on the responsibility for proposing such a new currency, thus adding their weight to that of the Chinese, Russians, Indians and Brazilians. The result one year on: "Every man for himself" rules and Washington is no longer capable of having its proposals adopted by the G20 which, de facto, transforms itself into a meeting which increasingly fails to hide a growing state of world dissention.

Ask around and you'll hear this over and over again: People are concerned about what might be coming. They're concerned about a global financial collapse, an ecological crisis, and potential disruptions in the food supply. The radical weather patterns now being witnessed across the world are further indication that something's wrong with the world we thought we knew.

But what's really going to happen between now and 2012? Is there any way to take an educated guess about which challenges are most likely to appear?

That's what I've done here in this collection of thirty-six predictions for 2010 - 2012. Although I can't actually see the future in some sort of crystal ball, I do have a successful track record of predicting many large-scale events years before they happen. As published here on NaturalNews, my predictions for 2009 clocked in at 79% accuracy. I'm on the record calling the 2007 housing crash a full two years before it took place, and those who have been following these writings for several years know that I openly warned people about the dot-com crash two years before it happened as well.

So here's what I see coming in 2010 - 2012. This is based on "educated guesses" about where current trends may lead us. This is not some sort of psychic prediction exercise; it's based entirely on observation and forward thinking.

By the way, if these predictions seem too pessimistic, be sure to read the bottom of this article, which talks about the upside of what will happen after these next few years. Ultimately, there is good news ahead.

#1 - Worldwide shortage of rare earth metals
The world depends on Rare Earth Metals (REMs) to manufacture everything from electric motors to solar panels and computer parts. Expect a global shortage to hit hard over the next three years.

#2 - Food supply disruptions hit western nations
There will be one or more serious disruptions in the food supply that will wake up Americans to the possibility that their food may not be as secure or plentiful as they had imagined. While this could take the form of a crop disease that spreads across corn or wheat farms, it's more likely to involve radical weather patterns that destroy crops and limit food supply.

#3 - Deadly superbug mutation goes wild
A deadly superbug will escape the hospital and get into the "wild" -- meaning it starts to infect everyday people, perhaps being transmitted through gyms or schools. A review of what led to the escape will point to abuse of antibiotics and failure of hospital staff to wash their hands.

#4 - New evidence links vaccines and neurological disorders
New evidence will emerge linking vaccines to neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. This evidence may point to the chemical adjuvants used in vaccines which cause an inflammatory response in the body. The vaccine industry, of course, will deny any such link, but evidence will mount that points to the link.

#5 - U.S. power grid suffers catastrophic failure
At some point over the next three years, the U.S. power grid will suffer a catastrophic regional failure that puts tens of millions of people in the dark. The power grid is a fragile system just waiting to be brought down by cascading failures. It will be repaired relatively quickly (perhaps in 72 hours), but its failure will leave many people on edge and cause a rush of business at preparedness retailers.

#6 - Satellite breakdown
There will be a huge failure in one or more key communications satellites, causing widespread disruptions in telecomm services, including those serving emergency and law enforcement organizations. Likely causes: Space debris, solar flares or deliberate targeting by land-to-space rockets. (China may even begin to shoot down U.S. satellites if a military confrontation breaks out, see below...)

#7 - GM crop contamination leads to crisis
Somewhere in North America, the contamination of crops with genetically modified DNA or seeds will flare into a crop crisis (and perhaps even crop failures). Tensions between affected farmers and seed corporations like Monsanto will escalate, and new public attention will be drawn to the problem of GM crops. (As a side note, new evidence will also emerge linking GM foods to internal organ damage in laboratory animals...)

#8 - Honeybee population collapse spreads to other species
The Colony Collapse Disorder now striking honeybee populations will not only get worse in honeybees, it will also spread to other species including amphibians. Bird watchers will record an alarming decline in bird populations throughout North America, and scientists will note a disturbing trend in the loss of species diversity in many areas.

#9 - Weather patterns become increasingly radicalized
Expect to see more flood, more earthquakes, more droughts, more heat waves, and more cold spells as the world's weather patterns show increasing destabilization. Droughts will come to areas that typically see plenty of water, and too much water will appear in areas that are normally more arid. Many humans will be displaced and property damage will rise into the tens of billions of dollars. (Note, I wrote this prediction in early January, well before the recent snow storms hammered the East Coast. But there will still be many more radical weather events...)

#10 - Nuclear power sees global resurgence
The need for cheap, non-fossil power will drive more countries to embrace nuclear power as the "clean" energy source of the near future. Expect to see more nuclear power plants approved for construction. (Actually completing the construction can take a decade or more, however.)

Update On Feb. 16, 2010, just days after this prediction was published, the Obama administration launched an $8 billion new initiative to build more nuclear power plants.

#11 - Nuclear weapons unleashed in the Middle East
I only give this a 25% chance before the end of 2012, but it seems possible that low-yield tactical nuclear weapons could be used in a conflict in the Middle East, most likely involving Israel targeting Iran. One dangerous possibility is that conventional "bunker buster" bombs could be used to bomb Iranian nuclear processing facilities, releasing a cloud of radioactive dust that blankets the region, causing countless civilian casualties. In terms of nuclear threats, another important possibility that I predict could unfold is the theft of nuclear weapons from Pakistan by more radical forces who then use their stolen nuke weapons to threaten and destabilize the entire region.

#12 - New exotic superfood from South America emerges in western markets
There will be at least one new superfood from South America that breaks into western markets in much the same way that Acai did a few years back. It will be an herb or fruit that virtually no one in North America has heard of yet, but which has been known in the Amazon (or surrounding areas) for thousands of years. NaturalNews may, in fact, be involved in announcing this...

#13 - A high-tech, portable vitamin D sensor device is invented
The timeline may be a little short on this prediction -- I actually have more confidence of this appearing by 2016. The prediction is that a portable vitamin D sensor device will be invented. It will allow people to have their blood levels of vitamin D tested within two minutes, with either a tiny blood draw (such as with diabetic blood glucose testers) or, even better, a laser or infra-red detection technology that's non-invasive. The widespread use of such devices could revolutionize health by pinpointing people who are deficient in vitamin D. A deficiency, as you probably know, causes cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, depression, osteoporosis and many other diseases. There is a good chance that the invention of such a device could be blocked by the FDA as a way to prevent this lifesaving technology from going into widespread use in the USA. Why would the FDA block this? Because if people corrected their vitamin D levels, they wouldn't buy as many pharmaceuticals and the cancer industry would all but implode.

#14 - U.S. debt gets downgraded while world investors slash purchases of U.S. debt instruments
The U.S. loses credibility in the financial world. This leads to rampant price inflation combined with currency deflation of the U.S. dollar. The U.S. government, with its debt climbing ever higher, will find itself virtually unable to sell more debt. It will then resort to printing more money to pay its own debt, which is roughly the same as using cash advances on your credit card to pay your minimum monthly debt payment on that same card. The end result will be the complete financial bankruptcy of the U.S. government well before 2025.

Update: On Feb. 16, 2010, just days after this prediction was published, Reuters reported "foreign demand for U.S. Treasury securities fell by the largest amount on record in December with China reducing its holdings by $34.2 billion."

#15 - U.S. nearly comes to military conflict with China over natural resources
This may take a few more years beyond 2012, but by 2016, I predict a 50% chance that the U.S. will very nearly engage in military conflict with China over natural resources. The most likely candidate? Oil, of course, but natural gas or rare earth metals could also be part of this conflict. China will emerge victorious in the negotiations because it will secretly threaten to sell off U.S. debt and crash the U.S. debt ratings (see above) unless the U.S. gives in to its demands over natural resources.

#16 - Huge new scandal implicates major pharmaceutical company in scientific fraud
This is a no-brainer, actually. It's only a matter of time before Big Pharma gets caught yet again committing a felony, bribing researchers, faking clinical trial data, or burying studies that it doesn't want the public to see. Expect to see another Vioxx-scale scandal unearthed, possibly from a Big Pharma whistleblower.

#17 - China unleashes armies of corporate espionage hackers onto western nations
This is already underway, actually, but it will accelerate in the next three years as China uses this new method of electronic warfare to steal corporate secrets and disrupt western society. Particularly vulnerable are DNS root servers. If they are brought down, the entire internet will effectively grind to a halt.

#18 - Medical imaging scandal unfolds as older patients begin to show serious health damage from radiation via mammograms, CT scans and more
Cancer caused by medical imaging technology is one of the "dirty little secrets" of western medicine. Expect to see more research linking medical imaging to health problems. The medical imaging industry, as usual, will try anything to suppress the evidence (this includes the mammography industry, which is already engaged in medical violence against women via medically unjustified mammography).

#19 - Another 9/11 false flag incident
Desperate to convince the people to accept more police state oppression, certain dark forces within the U.S. government will stage another large-scale false flag "terror" attack most likely involving a dirty bomb or biological weapon. Following the attack, government authorities will issue new calls for surveillance and movement tracking of the entire population. RFID implants will play a significant role as well as phone tracking. Propaganda television ads will show implants as being harmless and put in place to "protect your family against terrorism." But the real purpose will be to establish a database of the movements and locations of U.S. citizens that can be data mined to discover patterns of meetings among two or more people. If you meet with the "wrong" people, you will then be added to a list of those to be watched. Those who refuse to be tagged or tracked will be denied air travel and other forms of free travel.

#20 - The world won't end on December 21, 2012
The world won't come to an end on December 21, 2012, but certain elements of current human civilization may certainly be coming to a close around that time. The global money system, in particular, is headed for a total collapse. Many elements of the environment are at a breaking point (such as the chemical pollution of the oceans). The chemical burden on the citizens of the world is reaching a critical mass they may culminate in a population collapse. I don't put any special significance on the date of December 21, but I do believe many things are headed toward collapse (and rebirth) over the next several years.

#21 - EPA pressured to regulate pharmaceuticals in the water supply
After ignoring the problem for decades, the EPA will finally be pressured into taking on the regulation of pharmaceuticals in the water supply. Big Pharma will fight this relentlessly, of course, because it makes more money by distributing more drugs that end up in the water supply. So don't expect any real action to limit Big Pharma's drug trade. Mostly, we'll just get talk (but no action) from the EPA.

#22 - Nursing home drugging scandal exposed
A major scandal involving the criminal drugging of nursing home residents will unfold in the western world. It will be discovered that staff are intentionally drugging residents into a mental stupor in order to make them "easier to handle." Several deaths among nursing home patients will occur, with one of them being mysterious enough to set off the investigation.

#23 - The psychiatric industry will declare more normal behaviors to be "disorders"
Between now and 2012, the psych industry will "discover" yet more disorders that will be promoted as vehicles for selling more dangerous mind-altering drugs to children. These new disorder will actually be normal behaviors that are "undesirable" by parents or teachers. For example, temper tantrums may be classified as a disorder requiring pharmaceutical treatment. "Talking back disorder" will be given some scientific-sounding name (to make it seem legitimate, of course) and will be treated with drugs that harm brain function. There's no end to the disease mongering of Big Pharma. Expect to see more disorders targeting younger children, expectant mothers and senior citizens. This is all part of Big Pharma's effort to expand its customer base.

Scary possibility: Adults who refuse to follow government orders for RFID tracking or other Big Brother plans may be labeled with a new disorder called "Adult Authority Defiance Disorder" (AADD) and be arrested and medicated against their will to "treat" their brain malfunction. The only way to avoid being labeled AADD is to go along with whatever you're told by the government.

#24 - Vaccine industry goes crazy with new vaccines for all sorts of "diseases"
The vaccine industry has been itching for new diseases to promote over the last few years. Big Pharma has realized that vaccines are the future of big profits because their sale doesn't require anyone to actually be sick. This is a way of selling drugs to healthy people, and this has been a long-term goal of Big Pharma for at least two decades. Between now and 2012, expect to see more vaccines marketed for various concocted infectious diseases (much like H1N1) as well as vaccines targeting behavior! For example, you might see vaccines pushed that claim to stop smoking or alcoholism or even over-eating. #25 - War on health freedom ramps up, targeting raw milk, homeopathy, herbs and supplements
The war against raw milk will result in farmers being treated like drug dealers by overzealous (and misguided) health "authorities" who engage in armed "raw milk raids." Homeopathy, anti-cancer therapies, herbs and supplements will all continue to be viciously attacked by the FDA and FTC, and these attacks will escalate as the FDA enters a new era of police state tyranny against the American People who are only seeking healing.

#26 - The world becomes a far more dangerous place for honest citizens
As economic, environmental and infrastructure failures occur, they will displace more people from their jobs and homes, leading to a sharp increase in crime nearly everywhere around the world. We already saw this after Hurricane Katrina, where hundreds of thousands of jobless refugees caused a huge crime wave through neighboring cities like Houston, TX. Expect to see significant increases in crime in all major world cities.

The worse the economy becomes, the fewer police officers can be afforded by municipalities. This translates into increases in street crime: Muggings, robberies, hold-ups, etc. We're already seeing this happen: Here's a news story from a 73-year-old man who robbed three Tampa banks to pay his mortgage. Notably, he was only robbing the banks for $600 each because that's all he needed to pay the mortgage. Don't you find it interesting that it's illegal for people to rob banks, but it's perfectly legal for banks to rob the People! (Bailout money...)

#27 - New attempts are made to destroy internet freedom
There will be a significant new attempt by one or more governments to destroy freedom on the internet. This will take the form of "hate speech" laws, identity laws (so no one can post anything on the 'net anonymously), or the outlawing of internet text on certain topics (such as making it illegal to post information on natural remedies). This will be put in place by desperate governments who realize they are losing their propaganda wars thanks to the freedoms of the internet.

You can also expect to see more cooperation between Google (and YouTube) and the NSA, FBI or CIA. Governments will maintain secret information taps into all the major search engines, email service providers, and content websites. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, YouTube and many other sites will function as back-door surveillance platforms for the U.S. government.

#28 - China's boom will bust, sending ripples through global economy
China is driving a super-heated economy to the brink of a bust. Everything looks great during the boom, but this boom will come to an end before January, 2013. China is a mass consumer of natural resources and construction materials like concrete and steel. When its economic bubble bursts, it will send shock waves through the economies of all the major first-world countries who supply many of the materials and technologies that are currently underlying China's fast-paced growth. Most importantly, China's economic bust will cause a sharp drop in the country's ability to purchase more U.S. debt. China's central banks may even decide to start selling U.S. debt notes. This act could set off a chain reaction of global sales that would tear open a huge hole in the metaphorical Titanic of America's counterfeit economic prosperity.

#29 - Central and South America will drop the U.S. dollar as a currency
Ecuador currently uses the U.S. dollar as its primary currency. The dollar is also openly accepted in countries like Panama. But within the next three years, the U.S. dollar will lose its dominance in South America. I predict that Ecuador will be well on its way towards ditching the dollar and embracing either its own new currency or adopting a new South American currency by January, 2013.

All the South American elected officials already realize that the endless creation of new money by the Federal Reserve is causing a devaluation of the U.S. dollar -- effectively resulting in a transfer of wealth from those nations that use the dollar to the USA. This is seen on the street as an inflationary event that raises street prices of common goods (like food and fuel) in developing countries, making presidents increasingly unpopular among their citizens. The only way to defend against this erosion of wealth is to drop the U.S. dollar as a currency and switch to your own national or regional currency.

#30 - Local currencies emerge following the collapse of the dollar
Speaking of currency, although the collapse of the U.S. dollar may take several years beyond 2012, once it happens, you can expect to see a flood of local currencies hitting the streets in towns and cities across the USA. States like California or Texas, for example, may quickly set up their own "state reserve banks" that replace the Federal Reserve. They will then issue state notes ("Texas Bucks") that serve as currency, replacing the dollar. There will then be exchange rates between the currencies of various states -- I'll give you 1.25 California Bucks for 1 Texas Buck... etc. Fortunes will be made and lost as currency traders bet on the fluctuations between state currency valuations.

#31 - TSA suspends full body scanners after celeb photo scandal
The TSA swears that your "naked" body picture is deleted in mere seconds after it's taken. But I predict that a famous U.S. celebrity will have their body scanner picture taken, saved and swapped all over the internet. The public outcry will cause the TSA to temporarily suspend body scanning operations, but after the protests fade away, they'll reinstate the procedure. "Sheeple" air travelers will go right along with it, believing that a little more security is worth sacrificing any amount of freedom.

#32 - Cell phone brain tumors start to appear in younger users
By 2012, numerous brain tumors will be documented in people in their 20's who were heavy users of cell phones throughout their childhood and teen years. It takes time for these tumors to develop, of course, which is why they haven't shown up in large numbers yet. Today's 30+ adults never used cell phones as children, but the current generation of adults in their 20's grew up with their heads being subjected to these intense electromagnetic radiation fields on a regular basis.

#33 - Medical industry claims to find cause of autism
In order to deflect blame from vaccines, the medical industry will falsify whatever research is necessary to blame autism on something else: probably a combination of genetics and exposure to certain chemicals. This new "research" will be published in a "prestigious" medical journal (which caters to the interests of Big Pharma, of course).

#34 - Terrorist strike on the U.S. water supply
(The text of this prediction has been removed, as I don't want to be blamed for giving terrorists any specific ideas. In no way do I wish for any terrorist attacks on anyone. But I should note that terrorists are pretty clever and they have ways to come up with their own ideas.)

#35 - Sperm count drops, infertility rates rise
The next five years will see infertility rates continue to rise as sperm counts drop and DNA mutations (caused by pharmaceuticals and other chemicals) keep rising. This is the beginning of the genopocalypse, as I call it: the genetic degradation of the mainstream human population.

#36 - "Stealth personal recorders" go mainstream
I predict that over the next 3-5 years, tiny "personal recorders" that can record 24 hours of audio and video while being covertly worn by people will go mainstream. This will have huge implications for police work (expect to see police caught in the abuse of innocent citizens), business meetings (expect to see video clips from private corporation meetings ending up on the 'net thanks to whistleblowers), government and many other areas. A key court case will eventually emerge that challenges the legality of the personal recordings, and in the end, they will be allowed as evidence. New laws passed by Congress in the year 2015 will limit the use of personal recorders in public schools, government buildings, and other "sensitive" areas. These devices, by the way, will likely take the form of finger rings (for audio recorders), necklaces, bracelets or eyeglasses. Some specialty technology recorders may even be placed inside false eyes.

The year 2010 and beyond will be the "counter surveillance era" where citizens are watching the authorities. YouTube will play a huge role in this, but sooner or later it will begin censoring and blocking videos that threaten the credibility of the government ...

The mouthpiece of the new world order -- the mainstream news media -- is falling all over itself to show the images and symbols of how leaders of the 20 most powerful nations on earth came together to "save the world."

Their tinny reporting has all the makings of a corny B movie about a bunch of inexperienced, yet cunning crooks, plotting to close down or control all the places where people keep their money, steal the world's wealth, redistribute it among their buddies, and deceive the masses while appearing to be a frat house of raucous superheroes. Unfortunately, the world stage is little different than Hollywood and the myth of the movie is, in truth, a reality show.

Great Britain's Prime Minister Harold Brown whipped the media into a frenzy by declaring:

"I think a new world order is emerging and with it the foundations of a new and progressive era of international cooperation."

Brown underscored a global communist theme in saying:

"We have resolved from today, we will together manage the process of globalization to secure responsibility from all and fairness to all."

Brown summarized the accomplishments of the G20 summit saying world leaders embarked on the largest redistribution of wealth in history by agreeing to reform banks, restructure the global financial system, give money to the poor and ensure "a green recovery."

The man who now occupies the Oval Office threw America's sovereignty under the bus, joined up with the gang of 20, and agreed to an international heist of a trillion dollars as the first installment of redistributing America's wealth to the rest of the world in support of programs that will make his socialist and communist buddies richer and more powerful. He explained his strategy of compromise to adoring reporters:

"Each country has its own quirks and own particular issues that a leader may decide is really, really important, something that is non-negotiable for them. And what we tried to do as much as possible was to accommodate those issues in a way that did not hamper the effectiveness of the overall document."

Even Russian President Dmitry Medvedev hailed the US President as "my new comrade." The Russians are ecstatic over the possibility of the US now reversing all previous policies that protected America and her allies from Russian-inspired attacks.

2 Timothy 3:13 warned of the type of leaders that would emerge in the latter days:

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived."

The world has witnessed the very foundational cornerstone being laid of a one world order. And those who do not know better are embracing this deadly plague dressed like a virgin bride -- just like in the movies. This script, however, was not written in Hollywood.

Lost Vegas: Vanguard

During the boom years, no place in America boomed more than Las Vegas. But when the economy collapsed, Vegas fell hard.


Laura Ling tours the wreckage of Sin City, from unemployed strippers and half-built, abandoned casino projects, to hospitals turning away cancer patients and ambulances, to one of the few remaining boom industries--evicting people.

“Lost Vegas” (video above) previews the terrifying future facing America. We are looking at a disaster unprecedented in recent history.

America's flawed "pro-growth" economy

In the 1980s, the US adopted economic policies that favored cost cutting and global trade. And where the US used to be the manufacturing sector of the world, it stopped making goods, and instead started buying goods from Asia, where products were cheaper because people were paid less to make them. The US was flooded with cheap goods, and Americans were encouraged to spend more money. And eventually consumer spending, which used to account for 60% of the US economy, had jumped to 70%. Factory workers in the midwest lost their jobs and many of them ended up leaving for growing places like Las Vegas. - Quote from "Lost Vegas"

In the last twenty five years, the US has outsourced virtually its entire manufacturing sector. We as a nation have allowed ourselves to become totally dependent on foreign oil (those 11mph SUVs), and we have outsourced the productions of our most basic necessities to places like China. This means that a devaluation of the dollar will instantly wipe out America’s standard of living, leaving us as third world citizens. This dollar devaluation is now underway.

The ‘bad’ phase of this financial crisis is only beginning

Up until now, while things may have been bad on an individual level (job loss, foreclosures, etc.), the financial crisis hasn’t impacted the way America works.People may have cut back on spending, but the basics of American life haven’t been drastically altered. However, that is about to change as the dollar collapses over the coming months.

No Savings

Savings are going to be wiped out by the dollar’s collapse. Oh, there will be plenty of $100 bills floating around the economy, but these bills won’t buy anything of value.

No Credit

Although the financial crisis has greatly impacted the ability to borrow, right now it is still possible for American consumers to borrow money. As proof, I just got another 0% credit card last month (which I used to buy gold on ebay).

However, credit card limits aren’t going to be increased to keep up with inflation, which means a year from now nearly all credit cards will be useless (credit cards of foreign banks denominated in foreign currencies might still work). Additionally, hyperinflation has the impact of vaporizing the financial sector of the country where it occurs, which means it will be soon next to impossible to borrow money in the US.

No Jobs

The dollar has begun to fall, and over the next year it will lose most of its value. As it does, most of America’s service economy, like Las Vegas, will disintegrate as consumer spending in real terms (i.e.: gold or other stable currencies) will drop like a rock. The US service sector will evaporate, bringing unemployment to levels exceeding the great depression.

People will die

When people go broke, so do their governments. - Quote from "Lost Vegas"

As the US service economy disintegrates, public health services/programs will be cut back, and individuals will have no savings/credit/income to pay for medical care. The “Lost Vegas” video should give an idea what this will look like: patients will be turned away from hospital; pharmacies will also close because no one will have any means of paying for medication. It will be a disaster…

Crime will rise

“This economy is so stupid, man. People are going to start going to jail eventually… because, you know, they’re worried about their kids, the health of their kids, feeding their kids… they're going to do whatever it takes to feed their kids, man… I got kids, man… I gotta feed, man.” -Quote from "Lost Vegas"

We are heading towards a future with millions of desperate people at a time when critical services, including law enforcement, will be cutting back. To make matters worse, oil prices will soar in dollars, leading to possible shortages and supply disruptions. Because of rising fuel costs and budget constraints, police forces will have to cut back on their fuel use, which means less patrolling…

This is what really scares me. You can stockpile all the food and gold in the world, but it is useless if it gets stolen from you.

How will your community do?

Look around you. Do you see any farmland, mines, oil wells/refining, factories, or unique landmarks able to attract foreign tourist? If you do, then you are luck, as these places will bring in income which will help sustain your local economy (Alaska will probably be the state best able to weather the crisis).

However, if all you see is retailers, hotels, casinos, houses, skyscrapers, restaurants, bars, clubs, etc, then your community is in trouble. "Lost Vegas" offers a preview of what faces a local economy concentrated entirely in the service sector.

Longer term, the US will recover

In the longer term, the manufacturing in the United States will recover. Companies will start outsourcing jobs here, as we will be the new China (weak currency with millions of people desperate for work). The US is also blessed with some of the best agricultural land on Earth. The people responsible for this economic/financial mess will go to jail, and the US economy will experience real grow based on the production real goods (and not over-consumption and foreign debt).

It is the next two years which terrify me. I plan to move to Russia later this year and am moving forwards with setting up a fund to invest in Russian agriculture.

Grim Predictions for 2010

2010—Grim Economic Predictions for What May Be the Tipping Point Year

For the last week or two “experts” and pundits have been making their forecasts for 2010. I always take these forecasts with a grain of salt. The people making the forecasts generally have some skin in the game and will tailor their forecast to benefit their particular agenda or investment portfolio.

I pride myself on dishing out punishment to both political parties and most investment shills. I will take on the thankless task of predicting the future.

Below are my prognostications in the areas of the economy, domestic politics, global geopolitics, and the investment markets.

To date, the Federal Reserve has printed well over a trillion dollars in an attempt to evade a deflationary collapse, including a $700 billion bank bailout and a $787 billion stimulus package. And then there was $3 billion wasted on Cash for Clunkers ($24,000 per vehicle), $28 billion squandered on the $8,500 homebuyer tax credit, and an artificial suppressing of interest rates to 0 percent with $300 billion of mortgage-backed securities purchased by the Federal Reserve and Treasury. And all we’ve received is a 2.2 percent increase in GDP?

The fourth quarter of 2009 will show a positive GDP as government spending and Federal Reserve quantitative easing have continued at a rapid clip. As the government stimulus winds down in the first half of 2010, the true weakness of the economy will reveal itself. I expect a double dip recession commencing by June of 2010.

With the economy sinking back into recession, the official unemployment rate will exceed 11 percent by late 2010. The true non-government manipulated figure will approach the Great Depression levels of 25 percent.

Over 8 million Americans have lost their jobs since 2007. The side effects from this fact will ripple through the country for years.

One quarter of all homeowners in the U.S. is underwater in their mortgages. A tsunami of Alt-A and Option ARM mortgages will reset in 2010. These two developments will lead to another surge in foreclosures. Despite government attempts to interfere in the market, home prices will fall another 10 percent in 2010.

The continued weakness in employment and housing will lead to a further drop in retail sales.

Developers of malls, office buildings, hotels, condos and apartments will pay the piper in 2010. Billions in debt related to projects built in 2005 will need to be refinanced. These properties have dropped 30 percent to 40 percent in value.

The continued weakness in retail sales will lead to retail bankruptcies and store closings. Fewer tenants means less rental income for mall owners. There will be a record number of commercial real estate bankruptcies in 2010. The bulk of these losses will be borne by regional banks.

There were 150 bank failures in 2009. The FDIC just announced they would add 1,600 employees in 2010, doubling their work force. There will be 500 bank failures in 2010.

The Federal Budget for 2010 anticipates a $1.5 trillion deficit. I believe the Obama administration will pull out all the stops to boost the economy before the 2010 elections. This means more spending. The 2010 deficit will be closer to $2 trillion.

The bond market and foreign buyers will choke on this amount of debt. The result will be much higher interest rates. Ten year Treasuries will start the year at 3.8 percent; by year end, rates will exceed 5 percent.

As the world loses confidence in the American economy and leadership, the dollar will fall to new all-time lows falling by another 15 percent. A falling dollar will result in a surge in gold and silver. Gold will break $1,500 an ounce, with silver breaking $20 an ounce.

As world demand increases and peak oil becomes acknowledged, oil prices will exceed $100 a barrel further depressing the U.S. economy.

Congress will pass the Obama healthcare plan by the end of January. The outrage will be palpable.

Obama will then announce another stimulus program and call it a “jobs program.” This will cost another $200 billion.

In February, the government will formally take over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. These unprecedented reckless interventions in our supposedly free markets will lead to huge Democratic losses in the 2010 Congressional elections. They will lose 50 seats in the House and 6 seats in the Senate.

As the economy deteriorates the stock market will drop by 30 percent in the first half of 2010. After the Republicans regain power in Washington DC, the stock market will rally.

The biggest wildcards in 2010 will come from outside the U.S.

The uprisings in Iran are likely to provoke the current leadership to stir up more trouble in Afghanistan and Iraq. The imposition of sanctions by the U.S. could also provoke Iran to lash out against Israel. This region is a powder keg with matches being lit every day. I expect Israel to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities before the end of 2010. Iran’s response will be to disrupt the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz. This will bring the U.S. Navy into conflict with Iran. Oil prices will soar when this conflict breaks out. The conflict in Afghanistan will worsen, with more American soldiers losing their lives. Tensions between Pakistan and India will increase as terrorists again attack within India.

Economically, Eastern Europe will crash with Greece, Latvia, and Hungary defaulting on their debt. This will plunge European banks into deeper losses and cause the next leg down in Europe. These foreign risks have the potential to spiral out of control.

You may have noticed that I’m not too optimistic about 2010. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

Brannon Howse Interviews Gerald Celente About Dire 2010 World Trends Forecast

I have been sitting here listening to Brannon Howse interviewing world trend forecaster Gerald Celente. It was one of the most interesting interviews I have heard in a long time. Celente is not a prophet so what he says will not necessarily take place, but I think you would have to be foolish to discount all of what Gerald Celente is saying. The man certainly calls them like he sees them, and he does not pull his punches.

Trend researchers study today’s current events that will bring tomorrow’s effects. I see much the same things as Celente coming, but I am not as sure of the timing as he is. Celente has a whole staff to analyze all the issues and he has had a very good track record in predicting world trends. That is also why Gerald Celente is now a very hot item on talk shows.

Celente sees the crash coming in 2010, so if you believe he really knows what he is talking about, there is little time left to prepare.

Here are some highlights of the Celente interview, at least that is what I got out of listening to the program, but listen to the Celente interview yourself if you can spare an hour.

• In 2010 there will be a major terrorist attack on the scale of 9/11 because we continue to make many new enemies due to our foreign wars, and also because WMD are getting easier for enemies of America to obtain.


• The attack will bring the world into the greatest depression because governments do not have any more resources to advert it.


• Even if there is no attack there will be an economic collapse in 2010 for any number of reasons.


• There will be a run on the banks and the government will close all the banks for a period of time to devalue the dollar.


• America is now under the control of banksters and the military industrial complex.
  
• America is under fascism.


• There will be major social breakdown in the big cities. There already is in some cities.


• People need to come up with a plan for how they will get through the coming crash and disorder.


• Martial law and the loss of more rights will take place.


• A false flag operation may take place.


• A huge anti-immigration movement will take place all over the world.


• A third party will form in the U.S. in 2012 and change government.


• Secession movements will grow and the United States will eventually break up into smaller nations. [Editor's Note: The states are dependent on the federal government as their biggest source of revenue, so I do not see this happening.]


• If America or Israel attacks Iran it will be the start of World War III.


• Saudi Arabia is involved in a war in Yemen, and oil installations in Saudi Arabia may now be at risk. Should an attack occur on a Saudi oil field, it could spike oil prices enough to cause the economic crash.

2010 Will Witness the Most Destructive Wars in Modern History

• 2010 will witness the most destructive wars in modern history
• 2010 will determine the fate of Iran and Lebanon for many years
• 2010 will observe a bitter end of Hezbollah and the destruction of Syria's missile and chemical programs

Middle East analysts predict that the year 2010 could make the past nine years look laughable considering the kinds and ferocity of tragedies that might hit the region that has been a violent battlefield for four crushing wars.

The first two are the Taliban regime of Afghanistan and that of Baathist Saddam Hussein in Iraq, which were toppled by force in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks by Osama bin Laden's Al Qaida group that targeted New York's twin towers and the Pentagon in Washington.

As a result of this deadly attack, Lebanon's political and military map was changed in the aftermath of the 2006 Israeli-Hezbollah war. By the end of this devastating war, an Israeli security belt was established inside the entire southern Lebanese territory as far as 20 miles to the south of the Litani area.

In 2000 Israel withdrew its troops from a previous security belt in southern Lebanon, to a distance not exceeding four kilometers. This new wide Israeli belt on her borders inside Lebanon is maintained by a force from 34 countries under the UN flag, and not by her own troops as was the situation before 2000.

Meanwhile, Lebanon, Syria and Iran were forced to approve the redeployment of the Lebanese army in the entire southern region, including the Lebanese–Israeli borders after it was driven away by the Syrian occupation all through its 30-year occupation of Lebanon.

At the same time, the Syrian occupation of Lebanon was knocked out in a successful political war in 2005 in which the Lebanese "David" defeated the Syrian "Juliet" and the Syrian army was forced to withdraw from Lebanon with accordance with UN Resolution 1559 after 30 years of brutal and savage occupation of the country.

Still in the Middle East, last year the creeping Iranian military invasion has viciously reached Saudi Arabia's southern borders with Yemen, where a fierce war is waging, probably in its last stages, in which the Iranians and their Yemeni Al-Howthy proxy are heading to a significant defeat.

In 2010, weapons of mass destruction that were developed after the unprecedented Iraq war, will probably determine the fate of at least two Middle East countries and that of a mini-state: Iran and its nuclear program, Lebanon and Hezbollah, and the Gaza Palestinian Strip mini-state.

It is expected that events will unfold in a dramatic way that could be much more catastrophic and destructive than all the previous wars that hit the region throughout the past 50 years. Analysts assume that these coming wars will remove all obstacles that US President Barack Obama is presently facing in his endeavor to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict which has been raging for the last 61 years.

In the midst of all these dramatic foreseen events, Syria and Lebanon will have no other option but to the sign a peace treaty in compliance with Israel's terms.

After containing the major Middle East conflicts, it is expected that the mighty Western countries will seriously focus their military interventions to resolve and end conflicts in three fragile countries, Afghanistan, Sudan and Somalia, in a bid to put an end to the problems that these three unstable countries are inflicting on their neighboring countries and on global peace and order.

Meanwhile, Syria and Lebanon might encounter a serious internal crisis as a result of the indictments and arrest warrants the Special International Tribunal for Lebanon is scheduled to issue. Hezbollah is expected to use its weapons internally to deter the Lebanese government from extraditing the witnesses and the accused that could include its elite leadership. This Iranian armed militia will replicate its May 2008 military invasion of Sunni western Beirut and the Druze Mount Lebanon that was waged to stop by force and terrorism the Lebanese government from dismantling its illegal telecommunication network and to transfer the head of security at Beirut airport who happens to be a Hezbollah loyalist.

Israeli experts at Jerusalem and Tel Aviv Universities strongly believe that the Khamenei-Ahmadinejad regime in Tehran could pre-empt any international military attack against its nuclear program and start a war against Israel from south Lebanon through Hezbollah and several Palestinian armed militias allied with Syria that are stationed in Lebanon.

These experts say that such an Iranian act will give Israel's Netanyahu government the needed justifications to go ahead and wage an unprecedented destructive war against both Hezbollah and Lebanon and totally cripple their capabilities for many years to come.

These same experts predict that Israel will need from five to six weeks to totally liquidate and eliminate Hezbollah's leadership, including Hassan Nasrallah, his deputy, Naim Qassem, all the military and political teams working with them, and to dismantle the Lebanese army structure and all its security apparatus that is still following the Syrian doctrine that Syria enforced during 30 years of her tutelage of Lebanon. The Israeli forces will target the Lebanese army leadership, weapons' caches, barracks, facilities, and members throughout Lebanon.

Syria

Despite the fact that the Syrian Baathist regime has been avoiding during the last three decades any direct military confrontation or even friction with the Israeli army, the Israeli analysts are under the impression that their country will widen its hit on Syrian targets to include sites in the capital Damascus and in the northern Syrian regions up to the Turkish border in a bid to once and forever eliminate Syria's chemical and missile programs in addition to the nuclear sites that were built with North Korean and Iranian experts. Syria would be hit more massively if it turns out to the Israelis that Hezbollah's long-range missiles that could target Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities were Syrian-made (an argument Israel's generals have been contemplating for a while).

Experts estimate the number of Israeli casualties as a result of the Iranian and Syrian missiles that Hezbollah would launch on Israeli cities and towns in this coming war between 1,000 and 2,000, with a twofold number of injured. Meanwhile, the Hezbollah and Lebanese losses will be four to five times greater than their casualties of the 2006 war. These losses will be around 8,000 dead and twice as many wounded. Many Shiite border villages as well towns and cities in the Bekaa valley and Beirut's southern suburbs will be totally destroyed and cease to exist.

Experts estimate the number of the Lebanese that would be displaced from their homes, mainly from south Lebanon, the Bekaa valley and southern Beirut suburbs would be more than a million citizens, with most of them taking refuge in Syria at this time. The same scenario indicates that the Lebanese economic infrastructure will be destroyed and transformed into mere ruins, while all international and Arabic efforts through the convening of aid conferences (e.g. Paris 2 and Paris 3 were special international economic conferences held in Paris to aid Lebanon in reconstruction) in order to raise funds for reconstruction will take for many years to be productive.

British defense officials have affirmed that this grim, intimidating and scary picture predicted by the Israeli experts for the coming year seems to be very close to the actual devastating reality that will hit Lebanon in the next war. The Israelis, as they are advocating worldwide, are solidly determined to close the Hezbollah case once and or all, due to the fact that wish to eliminate the possibility of any future wars and finally achieve security on their northern border.

Gerald Celente on 2010: ‘High Probability of Wild Card Terror Strikes’

For a couple of months now, we have been alerting our readers to forecasts from Gerald Celente regarding 2010 and terrorism.

In the year 2000, Celente predicted that, in the following year, Americans would not be safe at home or abroad. This year, he is forecasting something very similar, and has even suggested that terrorism in the Middle East, especially in Pakistan and around oil pipelines, may sew the seeds for World War III.



This past week proved that Mr. Celente has a keen understanding of what is going on around the world. As Mr. Celente says, current events form future future trends.

“Terrorism has evolved. Big-time terror is becoming more self-radicalizing. They don’t need an organized movement such as Al Qaeda or a leader like bin Laden to wreak havoc.

A whole generation of Muslims — enraged by US occupations, Predator drone strikes on their sovereign nations, ongoing civilian deaths, and belligerent US foreign policy initiatives — is preparing to do unto others as others have been doing unto them.

Celente said the Nigerian-born terrorist, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to bring down Northwest Flight 253, demonstrates the scope, capabilities and global reach of the terror spectrum: the lone-wolf, the professionally trained but unaffiliated, and the organized terror groups and cells. Thus, even if the explosives and training came from Yemen-based al Quaeda, the inspiration to suicide-bomb the airplane could have been self-initiated rather than an instance of an obedient soldier following orders.

The outrage is not confined to any specific demographic, stereotype or profile. It ranges from the well-educated and well-off, Abdulmutallab, son of a banker who lived in a three-million dollar London apartment, to the poor and oppressed.

As Celente forecast in the Top Trends of 2010 issue of the Trends Journal®, “There’s a high probability of wild-card terror strikes with the potential to cripple the global economy.”

Oil spikes, market crashes and financial panic will ensue should an attack of 9/11 scale hit the US or any major oil producer. “The cross-border fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni Houthi rebels is precisely the type of conflict that could destabilize world oil markets. Should the fighting intensify, the Saudi’s risk an attack upon their oil facilities, which could curtail supplies, drive prices higher and seriously damage the already imperiled world economy,” said Celente.

NYC Terror Attack Apparently Was Set for Sept. 11

DENVER - An Afghan immigrant wanted to carry out a massive New York City terror attack involving hydrogen peroxide bombs on commuter trains to coincide with the Sept. 11 anniversary before federal authorities foiled the plan, a U.S. prosecutor said Friday.

U.S. prosecutor Tim Neff told a federal judge in Denver that Najibullah Zazi "was intent on being in New York on 9/11" for a possible terror attack.

"The defendant was in the throes of making a bomb and attempting to perfect his formulation," Neff said. He called the evidence a "chilling, disturbing sequence of events."

Neff ordered Zazi, a 24-year-old Afghan-born coffee cart owner in New York and Denver airport shuttle driver, transferred to New York City to face charges of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction. It wasn’t immediately known when the U.S. Marshals Service would fly Zazi to New York.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Craig Shaffer ordered Najibullah Zazi held without bail pending his transfer to New York, where a federal grand jury indicted him on the terror charges, which carry a possible life sentence upon conviction.

The U.S. indictment says Zazi received explosives training from al-Qaida and bought large quantities of hydrogen peroxide and nail-polish remover at beauty supply stores to make bombs, possibly to detonate on New York City commuter trains.

Zazi has denied any involvement with terror.

Shaffer earlier dismissed a charge accusing Zazi of lying to federal authorities. Zazi was arrested Saturday on that charge — considered a holding charge until the federal indictment was handed down on Thursday.

Prosecutors told the judge Zazi posed a significant risk to the public and had few ties to the Colorado community, making him a flight risk.

Investigators have fanned out across the Denver area and New York City, going to beauty shops, home improvement stores and neighborhoods Zazi frequented looking for possible accomplices, while the government issued national terrorism warnings for sports complexes, hotels and transit systems.

A law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday that Zazi had associates in New York who were in on the plot. Court papers say that during the summer, Zazi and three unidentified associates bought "unusually large quantities" of hydrogen peroxide and acetone — a flammable solvent found in nail-polish remover — from beauty supply stores in the Denver area, products with names like Ion Sensitive Scalp Developer and Clairoxide.

Zazi searched a Queens home improvement store Web site for another ingredient needed to make a compound called TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide), the explosives used in the London bombings that killed over 50 people, prosecutors said.

Zazi has publicly denied being a terrorist since his arrest. He left a Denver court Thursday without commenting.

The government motion seeking to deny bail laid out a chronology of the alleged scheme, which prosecutors said had been in the works for over a year.

Zazi — a legal U.S. resident who immigrated in 1999 — began plotting as early as August 2008 to "use one or more weapons of mass destruction," when he "and others" traveled from Newark, N.J., to receive explosives training in Pakistan, prosecutors said.

Within days of returning from Pakistan in early 2009, he moved to the Denver suburb of Aurora, where he used a computer to research homemade bomb ingredients and to look up beauty supply stores where he could buy them, according to prosecutors.

A second law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation said associates of Zazi visited Colorado from New York to help him buy the chemicals, using stolen credit cards to make the purchases before returning to New York.

Security video and receipts show that some of the purchases were made near a Colorado hotel, according to court papers. On Sept. 6 and 7, Zazi checked into a suite at the hotel with a kitchen and a stove, the papers say, and tried to contact an unidentified associate "seeking to correct mixtures of ingredients to make explosives."

"Zazi repeatedly emphasized in the communications that he needed the answers right away," the papers said. "Each communication" was "more urgent than the last."

FBI explosives testing later found residue in the vent above the stove, authorities said.

On Sept. 8, court papers say, Zazi searched the Internet for home improvement stores in Queens before driving a rental car for a two-day trip to the city. The visit triggered a series of searches in Denver and New York City over the past two weeks, and netted backpacks, cell phones and a scale at a home where Zazi spent the night.

A law enforcement official said Thursday that authorities had been especially worried about Zazi’s Sept. 10 visit to the city because it coincided with a visit by President Barack Obama, and considered arresting him right away. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues.

Beauty supply store employees in New York and the Denver suburbs said authorities had been there recently asking whether anyone had come in buying a lot of hydrogen peroxide or acetone.

At Beauty Supply Warehouse in suburban Denver, Paul Phillips said a co-worker told investigators he had sold chemicals to Zazi. Company president Karan Hoss said the firm turned over security video of a man matching Zazi’s description to the FBI. A check of sales found that someone bought a dozen 32-ounce bottles of a hydrogen peroxide product in July. More was purchased in late August, Hoss said.

Zazi’s father, Mohammed Wali Zazi, and a New York City imam, Ahmad Wais Afzali, also appeared in court Thursday on charges they lied to investigators. Mohammed Zazi, 53, was ordered freed under court supervision in Denver until an Oct. 9 hearing. Afzali, who was accused of tipping off the Zazis to the federal probe against them in a tapped telephone call, was released in New York on $1.5 million bail.

Afzali’s attorney, Ron Kuby, denied his client knew anything about a plot.

"Obviously, the government would not be consenting to bail if it thought he was involved in a terrorism conspiracy," he said.

Is Another 9/11 Set to Unfold?

Earlier this year, quite by happenstance, I read a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter James B. Stewart.

"Heart of a Soldier" tells the story of two men who, well before it happened, foretold not only of the terrorist attack of 9/11 but also the 1993 bombing in the World Trade Center parking garage that preceded it.

One of the men, Rick Rescorla, was chief of security for Morgan Stanley with an office in the World Trade Center. He died on 9/11, but not before he shepherded all but six of Morgan Stanley's 2,700 employees to safety because of a well-prepared and well-executed evacuation plan. He'd have made it out, too, had he not gone back in the building looking for those six.

The other man, Daniel J. Hill, is still alive.

With another Sept. 11 approaching I wanted to talk to The Man Who Predicted 9/11.

Although the primary focus in Stewart's book is on Rescorla — a bona fide hero for his actions on 9/11 — I found Hill to be an even more fascinating character.

• It was Hill who converted to Islam as a young U.S. Army paratrooper stationed in Beirut in 1958.


• It was Hill who learned fluent Arabic.


• It was Hill who joined the Mujahedeen Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan and fought the Soviet invasion there in the 1980s.


• It was Hill who personally met Osama bin Laden.


• It was Hill who used information from Islamic extremists to warn Rescorla that terrorists would use the underground parking garage for a car bomb attack on the World Trade Center.


• It was Hill who asked the U.S. government to assist him in an assassination attempt on bin Laden in 1998 (the request was rejected).


• And it was Hill who warned the FBI just weeks before Sept. 11, 2001, that his Mideast contacts told him "something big" was about to happen in the United States, in New York, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia — maybe all three.

Through the Internet I managed to contact Hill at his home in Florida. He's 71 now. I asked him if his reputation as a terrorism prognosticator without parallel has changed his life much.

"Oh, that blew over pretty fast," he said. "Most of the people even in my hometown don't know any of that stuff."

He didn't want to talk about the past. He wanted to talk about the future.

The very near future.

The man who predicted 9/11 is worried that its sequel is imminent.

"Muslims that I talk to say things like, 'America thinks they're safe now. They've forgotten about 9/11. But watch, Daniel. Stay near your TV. It's going to be bigger than 9/11,' " he said.

He is not alone in suggesting such a scenario. A 2007 book, "The Day of Islam," spells out the details, as do any number of Internet sites, about a plot called "American Hiroshima."

The nukes, he said, will be detonated over New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

I asked Hill, "Why now?"

"Eight years from 1993 to 2001, eight years from that 9/11 to this 9/11," he said. "Symbolism. They're big on symbolism."

"Ramadan started two weeks ago Saturday," he said, referring to the Muslim holy month of fasting. "It always hits around Ramadan."

Eight years ago, Hill predicted the attack would come on Oct. 16 — almost in the middle of that year's Ramadan (the timing of Ramadan varies from year to year). He was about a month off.

"I don't know the second, hour or day. I just know they have the means, will, motivation and desire to do it," he said, noting that it's believed that years ago the suitcase nukes, acquired from former USSR operatives, were smuggled into America across the Mexican border.

Hill said he has warned the FBI, the CIA and others in government. For the past two years, he's sent out proposals for a book on the subject. All he's gotten back are rejections.

"To most people, I am a deviant personality," he said.

But there's no arguing his credentials.

"I'm a Muslim," he says. "I'm a special ops expert, I'm a terrorist and I've lived among Muslims. I fought the Russians with the same guys we're now fighting in Afghanistan. I met Osama. I volunteered to assassinate him. I know (the enemy) so well because I've worked, slept and prayed alongside them for years. I've become one of them. I know their nature, I know their culture, I know how they think. I can quote the Koran like a Southern Baptist minister can quote the New Testament. I know these are people who do not tire, who do not quit. There are odds this won't happen, but they aren't big odds."

"I hope you're wrong," I told him.

"Yeah. I hope so, too," he said.

FBI Partners With Jihad Groups

The FBI since the September 11 attacks has forged ties with a number of Muslim groups linked to a secretive organization that calls for the methodical takeover of the United States.

Human Events has obtained an eight-page memo written by Washington Field Office officials which celebrates the way the FBI, whose mission is law enforcement, has created these "partnerships."

Critics, some within the FBI, say the bureau is increasing the statue of groups whose long-term ideological goal is to bring Islamic law to America through jihad, or struggle.

A former agent told Human Events the bureau is dealing with the groups that maintain an under-the-radar alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood. The ultra-secretive Muslim Brotherhood, with chapters worldwide, is the glue for a network of Islamic groups.

"The FBI leadership is relying on the Muslim leaders, who are known Muslim Brotherhood, to give them direction on how to go after the enemy in the community," the ex-agent said. "These are the very people who have advocated overthrowing the American government."

The former agent pointed to the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood manifesto ("An Explanatory Memorandum On the General Strategic Goal for the Group in North America") discovered in 2004 in an FBI raid on a suspected Islamic extremist, Ismael Selim Elbarasse.

The document first came to light in 2007, when Justice Department prosecutors filed it in the case against the Holy Land Foundation, a Palestinian Hamas front that funneled millions of dollars to the outlaw terrorist group.

Written by a group of Brotherhood members in 1991, the paper says the group has begun "A new stage of Islamic activism stages in this continent." It said the goals were approved four years earlier at secret conferences of Muslims in this country.

One section states it goal of taking over the United States:

"Understanding the role of the Muslim Brother in North America: The process of settlement is a "Civilization-Jihadist Process" with all the word means. The Ikhwan [Brotherhood] must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and 'sabotaging' its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

"All those documents in Elbarasse's home were phenomenally important because for the first time it revealed the Muslim Brotherhood's existence," said Steve Emerson, who runs the Investigative Project on Terrorism and exposes radical Islam. "They disclosed the whole structure of the Muslim Brotherhood, which up until that point had not been known. It showed their agenda. That discovery was absolutely the greatest intelligence yield in 40 years."

Human Events examined the Islamic groups the FBI has befriended, presented with awards, invited to agent conferences and shared the speakers platform -- all under the guise of outreach to the Islamic community.

The most prevalent is the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a prominent Brotherhood member, according to Justice Department documents. The department named ISNA among scores of unindicted co-conspirators in the successful prosecution of Holy Land and its operatives.

The FBI has given awards to ISNA officials. It placed ads in its monthly publication asking Muslims to apply to become agents. "Today's FBI. It's for you," the ad says.

ISNA ran an ad that says: "We congratulate the FBI on 100 years of service to our country. Here's to continuing a shared partnership in securing the values, rights and freedoms we all hold dear as Americans." There is no endorsement of the FBI's counter-terrorism role.

Some FBI agents are disturbed at his outreach. They point, for example, to a panel discussion last year at Yale.

On the panel was Louay Safi, an Islamic scholar and supporter of President Obama. Joining him that day was Valerie Caproni, the FBI's top lawyer who weighs in on whether the bureau should investigate suspected extremists. The discussion was called, "Behind the Blindfold of Justice: Security, Individual Rights, & Minority Communities After 9/11."

Safi is a Syrian-born author who advocates Muslim American rights through his directorship of ISNA's Leadership Development Center. He advocates direct talks between Washington and Iran's leaders. He has spoken out against various law enforcement raids on Islamic centers.

In a 2003 publication, "Peace and the Limits of War," Safi wrote:

"The war against the apostates [non-believers of Islam] is carried out not to force them to accept Islam, but to enforce the Islamic law and maintain order."

He also wrote, "It is up to the Muslim leadership to assess the situation and weigh the circumstances as well as the capacity of the Muslim community before deciding the appropriate type of jihad. At one stage, Muslims may find that jihad, through persuasion or peaceful resistance, is the best and most effective method to achieve just peace."

At ISNA's annual convention in Washington in July, one speaker, Imam Warith Deen Umar, criticized Obama for having two Jewish people -- Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod -- in the White House. "Why do this small number of people have control of the world?" he said, according to a IPT transcript. He said the Holocast was punishment for Jews "because they were serially disobedient to Allah."

Emerson's group collected literature at the convention approved for distribution by ISNA.

It said the pamphlets and books featured "numerous attempts to portray U.S. prosecution of terrorists and terror supporters as anti-Muslim bigotry; dramatic revisionist history that denied attacks by Arab nations and Palestinian terrorists against Israel; anti-Semitic tracts and hyperbolic rants about a genocide and holocaust of Palestinians."

Asked if the FBI should sever ties with ISNA, Emerson said:

"ISNA is an unindicted co-conspirator. It's a Muslim Brotherhood group. I think in terms of legitimacy there should be certain expectations of what the group says publicly. If it continues to espouse jihad and anti-Semitism, I think it nullifies it right to have the FBI recognize it."

But the FBI, according to the internal memo obtained by Human Events, actually celebrates these ties.

"This relationship is designed to share cultural, linguistic and contextual expertise between the FBI and community members for the greater protection of our country and our civil liberties," the memo states. It adds, "The collaboration between the Arab, Muslim and Sikh Advisory Council and the FBI Washington Field Office has developed into a meaningful relationship of mutual trust and understanding and has provided significant progress regarding local religious centers."

Another section states, "It is the mission of the FBI to balance political freedoms with security."

When read this statement, the former agent told Human Events, "No it is not."

The memo specifically lauds ISNA's vice president, Imam Mohammed Majid.

"Imam Majid has represented the voice of moderate Muslims in the DC/Northern Virginia community and has stepped forward to denounce acts of hate and terrorism," the FBI memo says.

The FBI, under pressure from agents in the field, did sever ties with one Holy Land co-conspirator and Brotherhood Member -- the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR. The FBI used CAIR representatives to teach its agents about Islam.

"It was crazy all these years with CAIR, when CAIR was telling the worst horrible stories about the FBI and was telling people not to cooperate with the FBI," Emerson said.

John Miller, the FBI's chief spokesman, provided this statement to Human Events:

"In General, the FBI conducts outreach with a number of respected groups and leaders within the Arab-American and Muslim-American communities. While we are willing to talk to many groups, when it comes to any type of formal relationship or partnership, there is a process for vetting."

Concerning CAIR, Miller said, "As a result of evidence gathered by the FBI and presented during the Holy Land Foundation trial in Dallas, the FBI suspended all formal contacts with CAIR. Determining whether CAIR can be an appropriate liaison contact depends on addressing questions and issues raised in the trial about CAIR’s leadership . That does not affect the ability of CAIR or any member of CAIR to report any crime, suspicious activity or violation of civil rights to the FBI."

Muslim Prayers to Surround U.S. Capitol

On September 25, Dar ul Islam, a mosque in Elizabeth, N.J., is slating a massive Friday "jummah" prayer event at the west front of the U.S. Capitol (on the very site that President Obama gave his inauguration speech not so long ago).

This is not a joke. Click on this site and the strains of the sonorous Islamic call to prayer (which will be heard at the Capitol, I am guessing), will flow from your computer's loudspeakers. The mid-day summons to Allah will echo amongst Washington's most august monuments -- the site says "for the sole purpose of prayer." And "the peace, beauty and solidarity of Islam will shine through the America's capital."

Solidarity? America's Muslims have such on-and-off mosque attendance statistics, it's impossible to get a realistic count of how many of them there are in this country. Methinks a lot of other religious groups aren't going to be happy about this jummah rally. "A Day of Islamic Unity," the event is called. Well, I guess if Louis Farrakhan could preach from the same spot during the Million Man March nearly 14 years ago, so can these folks. They're talking about reserving 500 buses and talking about 50,000 attendees, so this could be one big clump of folks who head for lunch at Union Station afterward.

The Star-Ledger in Newark came out with the story about all this on Thursday. The idea, according to organizers, is to celebrate Muslims already being an integral part of American society.

Well, if you can have giant menorahs on the White House lawn each December, you can have Muslims praying about one-quarter mile to the north.
